The kitchen table Almost everyone I talked to for my autoethnogrpahy explained to my that the south has its own food genre, and people from the south place a huge value on proper etiquette and family. The kitchen table brings all of these things together. I am from Massachusetts, and was unfortunately not invited to any Atlanta native's family dinner. Instead, I took some of my sorority sisters with me to experience a southern dinner the best way we knew how, at Mary Mac's. Mary Ma';s is a restaurant in Atlanta, famous for its southern comfort food, sweet tea, and southern hospitality. As the three walked in the front door, we were greeted with a welcoming wave and a big smile. The hostess walked us to our simply decorated table and handed us our menus. The menu was full of classic southern specialties, I got to spend time with some great friends, and experience southern etiquette first hand. I believe the kitchen table is the perfect symbol for southern culture because it ties southern food, family conversation and bonding, and has defined rules of dinner etiquette.
